RIGHT AT 12 NOON - IT WAS THE BATTLE OF THE SUNYAC SCHOOLS - PLATTSBURGH TAKING ON POTSDAM. LOCAL HOMETOWN HERO SIGHTING - ITS PERU'S RACHEL MADORE - HANDLING THE LIBERO DUTIES FOR THE BEARS. 1. Cardinals were making it tough for her with their offense early - Liya Girma (Gur-Muh) - busy day for her - leading the game in kills with 18. 2. Plattsburgh would take the first - but Potsdam locked in - Alyssa Adams - mixing up her attacks - even using the net for one of her team high 13 kills. 3. And then the Bears building walls with their blocks - that one from Marissa Wagoner with the celly to finish the clip. POTSDAM WINS THE NEXT THREE - TO TAKE THIS ONE OVER - PLATTSBURGH IN FOUR SETS. THEY'D HAVE THEIR HANDS FULL IN THE SECOND GAME OF THE DAY - TAKING ON DIVISION TWO SCHOOL SAINT MICHAEL'S. AND THE PURPLE KNIGHTS SHOWED WHY THEY ARE D-2. THEY TALLIED 34 KILLS AGAINST THE BEARS - IN A DOMINANT THREE SET SWEEP. NCAA college volleyball served it up for the first time this season, and a few of our local teams joined in on the fun. SUNY Plattsburgh hosted another edition of its opening season Cardinal Classic tournament, where some of the best teams in our region traveled to the North Country to try to start the year out strong. Plattsburgh opened the tournament on Friday, Aug. 30 against Plymouth State University, but it was the Panthers who spoiled the Cardinals home opener plans with a 3-0 sweep. Plymouth State then continued its dominance with a 3-1 four-set victory over SUNY Potsdam. The two SUNYAC schools, Plattsburgh and Potsdam, matched up in a non-league clash on Saturday, Aug. 31. While Plattsburgh swept the season series in 2023, it was Potsdam who got the upper hand this year in a 3-1 four-set win. The Cardinals were led by sophom*ore Liya Girma on offense, who led the game with 18 kills. The duo of Alyssa Adams and Megan Henry combined for 24 kills, helping lead the Bears to victory. Peru, New York, native Rachel Madore also handled part of the libero duties for Potsdam, finishing with eight digs and two assists in the victory. Both schools would meet their match the rest of the afternoon, as NCAA Division II school Saint Michael’s College steamrolled through the two NCAA Division III schools. The Purple Knights featured a balanced offensive attack from Nora Schulze, Grace Almeida and D’Niaya Settles leading to straight 3-0 sweeps over Plattsburgh and Potsdam.
